Behind the Scenes: Shooting a Corporate Documentary

Take a look behind the curtain at what goes into producing a high-end corporate documentary film.

Creating a corporate documentary isn't just about setting up a camera and pressing record. It's a complex dance of storytelling, logistics, lighting, and human connection. Here is a look behind the curtain at our process.

Pre-Production: Finding the Story

Long before we arrive on set, we spend weeks in pre-production. This phase is entirely focused on discovery. We interview key stakeholders, research the company history, and outline the narrative arc. A documentary is only as good as its story.

The Gear: What's in Our Kit?

For high-end corporate docs, we typically shoot on cinema cameras like the RED or ARRI Alexa, paired with premium prime lenses to give that distinct cinematic look. But gear is just a tool; lighting is where the real magic happens.

Lighting for Emotion

Corporate spaces are often lit with harsh, unflattering fluorescent lights. Our team spends hours shaping light—flagging off the ugly overheads and bringing in soft, diffused lighting to make our subjects look their best and set the appropriate mood.

The Interview Process

The core of any documentary is the interview. Our directors are trained to make subjects feel comfortable. We don't want scripted PR answers; we want authentic passion and real stories. Creating a relaxed environment is crucial for this.

Post-Production: Sculpting the Narrative

In the edit bay, we might have 20 hours of footage for a 5-minute film. Our editors are sculptors, chipping away everything that doesn't serve the core message. We color grade the footage to match the brand's aesthetic and add a meticulously crafted sound design to bring the whole piece to life.
